How to Tell of a Fever with Your Young One

Children are often rushed to emergency rooms for cases of fever. This is so common and we actually don’t feel surprised by this fact. Fevers are quite common in children and as well frightening to child and parent alike. We are going to look at some of the tips which will be quite effective to help the parents handle the fevers that will catch their young ones at certain points in time and quite common as we have mentioned above.

The first question we may find resourceful for answering is a definition of what fever is in real sense. Generally, a fever is defined as a body temperature that is higher than normal. Body temperature is taken using a thermometer. In as much they are good at helping the child fight certain kinds of infections, when they get beyond the normal fevers can start to get you worrying and uncomfortable more so when you consider how old the child happens to be.

The next question many will ask is how to tell if their child has fever. Fever has its first sign on children in feeling hot and there will as well be certain changes in their behavior all varied as per their ages. With the newborn child, the first sign after an attack following the rise in temperature, will be the refusal to feed, either by breast or bottle and will as well be a lot more sleepy and fussy than is their usual case. For the older babies, you will find them a lot cranky and less energetic as compared to the normal. The toddler will as well be thirsting a lot and will have a lowered appetite. A toddler will as well give signs of listlessness and lack of interest in several activities as another sign of fever attack in them. They will as well show the signs in troubles falling asleep or being unusually sleepy. Look out for the signs of fever in your child age above 2 when you see them feeling tired and being unusually whining, when they are asking for drinks than is usual and complain of chills and or pains in their body. Should you see any of these signs in your young one, you will be good taking and noting their body temperature and tell if they could be catching or have caught a fever.
